Wanjiru’s wife denies plotting his death

The wife of the late Olympic marathon champion Samuel Wanjiru has refuted claims that she conspired with the police to have him killed.

Triza Njeri termed as malicious claims by the marathoner’s mother Hannah Wanjiru that she and a senior police officer who worked in Nyahururu at the time were behind the death.

Njeri, who spoke exclusively to The Standard, said she had no intention to have her husband killed and neither was she involved in a love affair with the officer as claimed.

She regretted that her mother-in-law was insisting that she be arrested due to their differences.

Njeri also denied allegations that she had taken over all the property that they owned with the athlete leaving Hannah in abject poverty.

"She took over the houses in Nyahururu and the dairy cows that we had bought and kept in our farm. She also collects rent for the houses that we own in Coresite estate in Nyahururu town," Njeri said.

Wanjiru’s mother had called a Press conference on Saturday where she claimed that the night guard on the fateful night had confessed that the police had arrived at the home accompanied by Njeri moments before the marathoner was reportedly said to have jumped from the balcony of the house.
