Gesami steps aside over CDF graft allegations

The MP who is facing two corruption related charges at a Kisumu court, said he decided to resign from public office until he is cleared of any wrongdoing.

"Therefore I shall step down from the position of Assistant minister in the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation effective from toady until further investigations on my cases are completed," Dr Gesami said at a press conference in Nairobi on Friday.

Gesami appeared before Kisumu senior principal magistrate Ezra Awino on Tuesday. He was charged with failing to comply with tendering rules in the running of the West Mugirango CDFa and for unlawfully engaging in projects worth Sh2.4 million without proper planning.
