24,000 schools connected to power

More than 24,000 public primary schools have been connected to electricity under the rural electrification programme.

Rural Electrification Authority (REA) said the move was aimed at enhancing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) uptake in schools across the country.

REA Chairman Dr Simon Gicharu said the board had now embarked on a supervision tour of schools throughout the country to check on the progress of the Sh29 billion project started by the National Government in 2013.

Dr Gicharu, who spoke during a tour of various schools in Kilifi County on Wednesday said the initiative was already helping the learning institutions utilise technology to improve performance.
