Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) has moved to clear the air on whether December 27 is a public holiday following a rumour going round social media.

Chief Executive Jacqueline Mugo said yesterday employers only recognise December 25 and 26 as public holidays and that any other day will be at the discretion of the Government.

The clarification came after employers sought clarity on the number of public holidays around Christmas.

“According to the Public Holidays Act (cap 110) of the Laws of Kenya, the following are the recognised official public holidays during this Christmas season - Sunday, 25th December and Monday, 26th December,” said Ms Mugo.

Confusion arose after rumours started going round on social media that December 27 is a public holiday.

”Please be advised that any other day may only be declared a public holiday through an official gazette notice issued by the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government,” said the FKE boss, adding that the public should disregard the rumours.
