Anti-Terrorism Police Unit claims it has credible evidence linking three suspects to the twin Kampala bombings.

Inspector Charles Ogeto said the evidence was unearthed in the investigation conducted by the unit and the Ugandan authorities.

Hussein Hassan Agade who is an employee in one of the FM radio stations in Nairobi, Christopher Mangondu a.k.a Idris and Mohammed Adan Abdow were arrested and handed over to the Ugandan police.

The suspects were arrested on July 22 in connection with the bombings that left 76 people dead and taken to Uganda on July 27.

In a document filed in court, Uganda’s Senior Commissioner of Police Moses Sakira, who is also the deputy director of CID, acknowledged receiving them.

Outside jurisdiction

They were handed over by a Kenyan officer and the matter taken over by Sakira.

The three suspects were arraigned before the magistrate’s court in Uganda on July 30, but did not take plea due to the charges levelled against them.

Ogeto said in his affidavit filed at the High Court registry in Nairobi that two cases filed by Agade and Mangondu’s families should be dismissed.

"Agade is outside the jurisdiction of this court and no longer in the custody of ATPU, Commissioner of Police Mathew Iteere and Attorney General Amos Wako," he said.

Yesterday, Justice Luka Kimaru ordered two cases filed by the suspects’ families to be taken before his colleague, Justice Mohammed Warsame, on September 20.

The judge had issued orders on July 30 that the suspects be produced before the High Court in Nairobi on August 2.

Agade, Mangondu and Abdow were arraigned in court on Friday as their relatives back home waited for their habeas corpus cases to be heard before the High Court in Nairobi.

The three, who did not take a plea, face 61 counts of murder for those killed while watching the World Cup final at the Kyadondo Rugby Club, east of Kampala and 15 counts for those killed at a restaurant.

They are expected back in court on August 27.
