Two key suspects in the Sh313,394,700 million G4S heist have been arrested and a ‘huge’ amount of money recovered.

The men were nabbed in Mombasa and Machakos on Thursday night in the ongoing hunt for those behind the theft. The arrested key suspects are believed to be G4S staff Sylvester Mbisi and Humphrey Wekesa Wanjala.

Sources said the officers involved in the operation had recovered millions of shillings in US dollars, which were wrapped in a nylon paper and plastics and buried near a river in Machakos.

"A full statement will be issued later, but all I can tell you is that there is a breakthrough and recovery of huge amount of money. We are also anticipating more recovery of the money," said a source who asked not to be named.

The detectives holding the suspects led by Coast PCIO Reche Nyagah on Friday traversed parts of Machakos where the men are believed to be hiding more money.

Kitengela home

The recovery and arrest came a week after another suspect, Jacob Mutuku Musau, was arrested and Sh17 million recovered from him in his newly leased Kitengela home.

Police seized several furniture and electronic goods the man had bought using part of the money.
