‘We wont be cowed by Nyong’o’s threats’

By PHILIP MWAKIO

The strike by medical workers at the Coast Provincial General Hospital (CPGH) entered the eighth day amid confusion over a return-to-work order issued by Medical Services Minister Anyang’ Nyong’o.

Association of Kenya Medical Laboratories Scientific Officers, Coast chapter chairman, Rashid Musinji, said workers had reported for work as usual, but were not at their workstations at the referral hospital.

"I can confirm to you that workers are still on strike here. However, we are awaiting communication from Nairobi to see the next course of action from here," he told journalists outside the office of the hospital administrator where they have been meeting since the strike started.

Dismissing workers

Striking workers demanded an immediate withdrawal of sacking threats issued by Prof Nyong’o.

"We cannot be cowed by his threats. In fact, it is in bad taste for us to agree to go to the negotiating table when he has his mind fixed on dismissing workers," a worker said.
