Nairobi County girls' hockey champions Moi Girls Nairobi are two matches away from retaining their title.

They defeated Mt Larvena 1-0 in their quarter-final match at Kianda School at the weekend to book a place in the semi-finals. Merab Anyango scored Moi's all-important goal to push them to the last four.

Parklands Arya also booked their semis slot following a 2-0 conquest over Starehe Girls. Arya have been in the campaign and have also maintained a clean sheet in all their matches. Vivian Atieno and Marinah Njeri scored for Arya.

Arya's head coach Fredrick Odhiambo said their main objective is to play at the national games. They have never qualified for the Metropolitan Regional games.

"We want to be at the national games this year. We know it will be an uphill task because we have never qualified for regional games. We want to go all the way and my girls are determined to make that happen," Odhiambo said.

Odhiambo said that after losing in the quarters last year, they went back to training in preparation for 2016.

"We have been training very hard with our goal in mind after we failed to proceed last year. I recruited new players immediately after the exit and my team is made up of players, who have never played competitively, but they have done well this far," he added.

Hillcrest defeated Arya 2-0 in last year's quarter-final.

Arya's duo of Njeri and Fatuma Omar lead the top scorers charts. They have scored seven goals each together with Mt Laverna's Irene Kagwiria.

In another match, hosts Kianda defeated Kenya High 2-0. Enede Wanjala starred for Kianda, scoring both goals. Buruburu Girls, who defeated Ngara Girls 1-0, sealed the other semi-final slot.

In rugby 15s, hosts Muhuri Muchiri defeated Strathmore 28-20.
