A robbery with violence suspect who was rearrested after escaping from the Mombasa Law Courts two weeks ago yesterday managed to sneak away from Central Police Station in Mombasa.

Hussein Abdalla Mohamed alias H Kubwa was arrested on April 3, 2022 and was three days later charged with robbery with violence at Mombasa Law Courts.

But while awaiting to be transported to Shimo La Tewa prison, he sneaked out of the court’s underground holding cells.

Central Police Station’s Leonard Mutai told the court there was a report of six remandees escaping from the custody with Mohamed being one of them.

“We are still trying to track down the suspect and the others who escaped from the cells,” Mutai told the court.

Mohamed was rearrested on Monday and charged on Tuesday with escaping from lawful custody of police.

But the suspect alleged that he paid the police officers Sh30,000 to facilitate his escape.

Mohamed told Senior Principal Magistrate Vincent Adet that the officer assured them he would tear their file and make it disappear.

“We paid Sh30,000 to a police officer who let us escape from the cells and he told us he would tear the file and the matter would disappear from the court,” said Mohamed.

Mohamed had on April 6, 2022 escaped with Francis Mokaya Mosioma and Daniel Kimani from the holding cells in Mombasa Law Courts shortly after being charged.

They are facing robbery with violence charges after they attacked a female police officer with machetes, stole from her and assaulted her afterwards.

The three attacked the officer on Marh 29 at Magongo Mwisho while she was going to work and made away with her bag that had her uniform.

Kimani was arrested on April 3 and he named his accomplices. On Tuesday Adet ordered that Mohamed should be held at Central Police Stattion after the prosecution told the court that they will apply to oppose bail.
