Egerton introduces free rides for staff, students with disability

Egerton University has initiated a program where staff and students living with disabilities will get free transport services.

According to Dr Gerishon Njuguna, Director of the University Welfare Services, the move is meant to make them access all services in the institution and provide comfort.

“The welfare of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) has remained our top priority. We also provide accommodation for three totally blind students through transcription services and transport, as well as organizing for large fonts for five Low Vision students,” Dr Njuguna said.

This becomes the first university in the country where students and members of staff are offered free transport services on campus to facilitate learning activities.

Majority of tertiary institutions have incorporated the aspect of accessibility facilities like parking and the setting up of wheelchair ramps in buildings.
