I'm not in a love relationship with Rev Lucy Natasha — Mombasa Bishop claims

Everything about Reverend Lucy Natasha has always fascinated Kenyan men on social media — from her pretty face, sexy and elegant outfits and bodyguards not to mention her rangi ya thao, or what the young call “yellow-yellow”.

Who is she dating? Will she get a husband who can match her looks and flamboyant lifestyle? But before you could gasp, “What the hell!”, Prophet Carmel, a short miracle preacher of Indian descent was going down on bended knee to propose.

“My love Carmel, may the rest of our life’s journey together be filled with God’s grace, blessings, provisions, protection and guidance. We shall continue to serve God and bless humanity,” she tweeted.

Someburry say haaymen! Harusi tunayo, hatuna!

Then questions started. Who was she dating before the good Prophet Caramel pulled a miracle that sent the women of God weak in the knees? It did not take long before Mombasa-based preacher Pastor Chris Mwai, Founder and President of Jesus Commonwealth Church was mentioned.

“He is the one! They were having a thing!” the Kenya Social Media Intelligence Service (KSMIS) gushed. Hell no, Pastor Mwai thundered.

In an interview with The Nairobian, Mwai, affirmed that their relationship was about spreading the Gospel and those claiming that they were lovers were enemies spreading the wrong gospel.

“We have known each other for a long time through church missions. We went to preach for Kenyans in Dubai together for four days in 2019. In fact, we took a lot of photos together, which we shared, meaning we were genuine friends,” Mwai explained.

Months before accepting Caramel’s proposal, Mwai claimed Natasha called him to share the good news because she didn't want him to hear reports from third parties.

“She told me about her fiancé and that there was nothing to hide. What has been written about us is not true. We respect each other and I wish her all the best in life,” said Mwai.

The preacher also said he was confident they would remain good friends, because friends still need each other even when they get married.

“The problem is that when people see two single people together, they speculate that there is something between them or they are dating. We were just ministry friends and that will not change.

“I think some people are not happy to see her settling down. Some of them, who have been posting negative stuff, are Nigerians. I don’t know what they want from her or why they are spreading malicious information,” said Mwai.

The Mombasa-based pastor further denied that he once worked under Lucy Natasha’s ministry as mentioned by some netizens stating that he has known her through ministry since 2016.

Reverend Natasha did not respond to our text message or phone calls when we sought comment about her alleged relationship with the Mombasa prophet.

But it is not just the Mombasa man who sent tongues wagging.

When Natasha first appeared in the public limelight around 2015, her poise, freshness, youth and beauty were so bewitching that then Nairobi governor Mike Sonko confessed his undying love for her on the pulpit. Days later, the two met, then drove to Sonko’s Machakos home for prayers after his father’s death.

The whispers began. Sonko is a man who is known to shoot without missing. And the two shared a love for flamboyance and big, expensive cars, trendy clothes and bodyguards. Could he? Could they? Would she? Were they?

So much so that Natasha announced her engagement, wags wondered whether Sonko would be unleashing audios or video recordings of their private conversations as he has been known to do, spreading blushes all over the place. Far from the truth, it turned out.

“It is always good to have a pastor who prays for you. Hii mambo ati kuna video za Rev. Natasha ni upuzi mtupu na ikemewe kabisa. We wish you a happy marriage with many kids mchungaji wa Mungu. Job ya MC siku ya wedding sijakataa,” Sonko responded via his Facebook Page.

Folks were merely being uncharitable. This clearly wasn’t a case of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, where Eneke the bird had learned to fly without perching because men had learned to shoot without missing.

Still, no one would blame Natasha for learning to fly without perching because everyone had been salivating to get a part of her.
