Mombasa CID officer held over bank heist

Mombasa police are holding a CID officer among three suspects alleged to have participated in bank heists in the coastal city.

The suspect, Fadhil Masoud, a police constable attached to Railways Police Station DCI Department was arrested on Friday morning in Nyali with his accomplices.

According to detectives, the suspect, who is a ring leader has been hiring a car and firearm to be used by the armed men in robberies.

The other two suspects are from Nairobi and have been traveling to Mombasa to carry out robberies with the aid of the officer.

Urban police boss Eliud Monari said the three were found in one of the apartments in Nyali area where they have been residing following police leads.

‘’I can confirm we have three suspects in custody and they are being held at Central Police Station. One of the suspects is our officer attached to Railways Police Station, DCI Department,” the police boss said.

The suspects, according to the police, had broken into two different cars that were ferrying money and stole over Sh1 million.

However, t is unclear when the robberies occurred or if they occurred in one day.
