Three members of a family who were buried alive after a massive landslide hit Taita Taveta County a fortnight ago have been buried.
Ernest Mwasi Mwakulegwa, 40, his wife Renine Mwasi, 27, and 11-month-old son Rendon Mwasi were buried at Kighombo village in Mwatate Sub-county in an emotional ceremony attended by Sports and Youth Executive Laban Mwashighadi.
The funeral was presided over by retired Anglican Church of Kenya Diocese Bishop Samson Mwaluda.
During the January 16 tragedy, only the couple's three-year-old daughter survived because she was sleeping over at her grandparents' house.
Mr Mwashighadi, who represented Governor Granton Samboja, was told off by angry mourners after he made remarks on the Building Bridges Initiative.
The family had earlier warned local leaders against introducing politics at the burial ceremony.
Kighombo location chief Ezekiel Tulu also found himself in trouble when he adviced mourners to vacate their houses during rains.
Rong'e ward rep Harris Keke challenged the county and national governments to find a lasting solution to the perennial floods in the region that have claimed many lives over the years.
The county recently lost five people while more than 2,400 others have been displaced
