Pastor killed by husband had established new church

The Mombasa-based pastor who was brutally killed by her husband had started a new church on the outskirts of Voi town, The Standard has reliably learnt.

Anne Maghanga was planning to relocate before tragedy befell her at the hands of her estranged evangelical husband, who also killed himself.

Elisha Misiko stabbed his wife several times before turning the knife on himself at the pulpit last Sunday as worshippers watched in shock.

The 50-year-old man died on the spot while his wife died as she was receiving treatment at the Coast General Hospital. He left behind a 17-page suicide note listing 13 reasons he chose to end his life and that of his wife of 19 years.

Misiko claimed his wife, with whom he had four children, falsely accused him of having sex with her relatives. He also blamed her for their troubled marriage, saying she had left with their children two years ago and he had not seen them since, despite paying for their upkeep and school fees.

Yesterday, one of Maghanga's friend revealed that she was planning a fresh start.

“The deceased was set to relocate to Voi town to start a new life after her relationship with her husband became unbearable. She was making the final touches to her new church before relocating to the town to spend the rest of her life in the county where she was born,” said Maria Chao.

Ms Chao, who is a nominated MCA in the Jubilee Party, disclosed that Maghanga had appointed a pastor to stand in for her as she prepared to relocate.

“I had talked to the pastor in August last year and she had confided in me that she was forced to separate from her husband because he was always threatening to kill her," said the MCA.

Burial preparations for Maghanga are going on at her Mgange Nyika village home in Taita.
