United chiefs reportedly ready to show their faith in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by backing him in the transfer market after impressive wins over Manchester City and Tottenham

Manchester United owners the Glazers are reportedly ready to show their faith in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by backing him in moves for Saul Niguez and Erling Braut Haaland.

Solskjaer's position as manager has been intense scrutiny after a run of below-par results left United playing catch-up in the race for the Premier League's top four spots.

The pressure was turned up on the Norwegian by Mauricio Pochettino's sacking as Tottenham boss, with the Argentine having been a long-time target for United.

But impressive wins over Manchester City and Tottenham have seen Solskjaer's stock rise, while also catapulting United up to fifth place - just five points off fourth place.

And the Glazer family have maintained that they have confidence in Solskjaer's rebuild and his job is not under threat, according to the Daily Mail.

The publication reports Solskjaer will be backed in a bid to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, while United are confident of signing Red Bull Salzburg hitman Haaland.

Saul's deal with Atletico keeps him at the club until 2026, but the midfielder is reported to have a release clause of £135m.

It has been reported that Haaland has a release clause of just £17m, but the 19-year-old Norwegian has been in record-breaking scoring form in the Champions League and a bidding war is likely to ensure when the January transfer window opens with clubs across Europe keen on the striker.

Solskjaer said he is confident of landing his targets as he looks to strengthen the United squad for a surge up the table in the second half of the season.

Talking to Norwegian channel TV2, Solskjaer said: "This week might cause people to talk a bit less, and for me it's always more fun to talk about things other than critique or speculations.

"I find it unnecessary when I know what we are doing and trying to do, and what we have planned going forward.

"If we can keep these boys injury-free, we will take lots of points — and we are going to reinforce the squad.

"It is physically tough to play football the way I want to play football. But we are on our way to become as robust as I want and need.

"These boys have the right attitude, they have the belief, they are boys that I want to keep going forward, that's why they are here right now."

However, the Mail reports that deals for Saul and Haaland are more likely to happen during the summer.
