Kabras Sugar and Impala Saracens will put their Kenya Cup unbeaten records on the line as they clash in a top of the table fixture at the Kakamega Showground today.
The match, which kicks off at 4pm, pits two teams that have claimed maximum points in their opening two matches.
Kabras and Impala have collected 10 points but the sugar millers are top of the 12-team table by virtue of their superior points scored difference.
Kabras, under the tutelage of South African Henly Du Plessis, are the only team yet to concede a try in the league having opened their campaign with an 89-0 win over returnees Kisumu RFC before restricting Mwamba RFC to three penalties on their way to a 43-9 victory last Saturday.
It remains to be seen whether the Kakamega outfit will stretch their impressive defensive record against Impala, who are fresh from a 57-9 thrashing of Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad.
Impala coach Mitch Ocholla does not expect Kabras to change their approach in today’s match which he has termed as a big one.
“We hope to build on our momentum from the first two matches. Kabras is a good team and we are aware of that so we want to execute our game plan perfectly,” said Ocholla, a former Impala player.
Ocholla warned that they cannot afford to play second fiddle in key situations like set pieces since that might be costly.
The Ngong Road-based side will have to do without the services of Davis Makori and Duncan Ekasi, the duo having been ruled out by work commitments.
Kabras and Impala last met in the Enterprise Cup final in May when Du Plessis’ charges claimed the bragging rights with a 37-7 win.
Homeboyz RFC, who have picked eight points from a possible 10, host high-flying Menengai Oilers at the Jamhuri Showground while defending champions KCB welcome struggling Nakuru RFC in Ruaraka.
Kenya Harlequin face Western Bulls at the RFUEA ground in a match that brings together two winless sides.
Quins occupy last position on the standings while Bulls, who are back to the top tier after two seasons, are 10th with one point.
Other matches will see Nondescripts make the short trip to Kenyatta University to face Blak Blad as Mwamba plays Kisumu RFC.
