CS warns leaders over killings

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has cautioned leaders whom he says are shielding criminals behind the killing of 13 people in Marsabit County.

Even though he did not mention names, Dr Matiang’i gave them 24 hours to locate the bandits and surrender illegal fire arms which are said to have been used in the murder. Those killed include three police officers.

“The attackers are well-known by some leaders. No one can come to the ground and cause such trouble without being known,“ Matiang’i said.

He also hinted at a move to overhaul the security team in the area. “We had a security meeting where even the Treasury Cabinet Secretary was in attendance. Our focus is on Marsabit,” he said.

The CS also said the government wants to create a renewed and synergised buffer zine at the volatile border.

“We are going to reorganise deployment in Marsabit, policemen from the Rapid Deployment Unit are on the move. We will put up border patrol units at the Ethiopian line in Fulore to ensure our people are safe,” he said.
