A Mexican druglord, described as El Chapo's successor, has taken violence in the country to the next level.

A Mexican drug lord, described as El Chapo's successor, has taken violence in the country to the next level.

Cartel boss Nemesio Cervantes has allegedly ordered the murder of pregnant women and babies as part of the ongoing drug wars in Mexico.

Cervantes, also known as 'El Mencho', is now top of US's 'most wanted' list and has a bounty of £7.9million on his head.

As gang violence spirals out of control in Mexico, the country's politicians have warned that attacks against women are at 'pandemic levels'.

Speaking about El Mencho's gang, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Drug Enforcement Administration agent Kyle Mori said: “They are very violent.

“Decapitations, dissolving bodies in acid, public executions, ripping out the heart, killing women and children, bombings against people.

“It happens almost every day. El Chapo was violent, but El Mencho has taken it to a new level.”

The agent told broadcaster Univision that Mexico's new drug kingpin hides out in the mountains.

Last month, 44 missing people, many of whom were women, were found dead in a well in Jalisco state, Mexico, The Sun reports.

The discovery was made in the heartland of the CJNG's territory and came about after locals noticed a foul smell coming from the well.

The victims' bodies were stuffed into 119 black bags.

The CJNG's methods are brutal even by Mexican standards, where cartels engage in beheadings and torture.

Murdering women was previously forbidden under cartel code, however the CJNG has abandoned this unwritten rule.
