Two suspects who were arrested on Sunday evening in connection with the murder of a nursery school girl in Kaiti, Makueni county have failed to take plea after police requested for more time to complete their investigations.

The two, Fredrick Mbindyo and Peter Musyoki were arraigned before Senior Principal Magistrate James Mwaniki in Makueni law courts.

According to police reports, the suspects were arrested following a letter that had been written and posted on walls of a shop at Kitondooni market, Kyuasini a few days after the girl went missing on her way to a water point.

Part of the letter indicated how one suspect dragged the six-year-old girl to his house, defiled her before killing her, stashing the body in a plastic container before dumping it in a 15 ft pit latrine.

The investigating officer requested the court to allow the police to detain the suspects as they build their case and allow the suspects to undergo mental assessment.

The court granted the police a custodial order of 14 days and the suspects will be remanded at Makueni Police Station.

They are expected to take plea on October 2.

The decomposing body of the girl has since been moved to Makueni Referal hospital awaiting postmortem.
