Man held after claiming he was robbed Sh10m in Parklands, Nairobi

A man who claimed to police he had been robbed Sh10 million in Parklands area, Nairobi has been arrested after it emerged he lied.

Police said Mr. Jaydeep Rajesh Kumar, an employee of Ken Match (E.A) Ltd had on Monday July 22 claimed he was robbed of the money while driving along Forest Road.

He told police that gunmen on a motorbike blocked his way and ordered him to surrender the “money” he had.

But police have since established the man collected Sh3.2 million from suppliers which he later banked at a bank in Westlands.

Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo said the man later walked to Parklands police station and claimed he had been robbed of Sh10.5 million.

“The other remaining amount was never collected from the customers as claimed. We are investigating it further,” said Ndolo.

Police visited the bank where he banked the cash and confirmed the claims. It emerged, he had been sent by his employer to collect the money for banking.

The suspect is expected in court Thursday to face various charges, police said.
