Miriti Koome, governor Kiraitu Murungi’s nominee to head the county’s Youth, Sports and Culture docket, was approved by the Assembly yesterday.

Mr Koome, 43, will replace Daniel Kiogora who resigned.

He will head the docket which is in charge of spearheading programmes in the Meru Youth Service, one of Kiraitu’s (pictured) pet projects.

Yesterday, two county leaders - Victor Karithi and Julius Mbijjiwe - said they expect Koome, a political science and sociology graduate from Catholic University of East Africa, to initiate more youth empowerment programmes.

Koome has previously worked for the Kenya Human Rights Commission and Meru Catholic Diocese.”We want him to use that experience to benefit the youth,” said Mr Kariithi.
