Teacher accused of defiling minor tries daring ‘prison break’

There was drama at Awasi Police Station in Nyando when a suspect in custody attempted to escape.

The suspect, who is being held for allegedly defiling and impregnating a minor, ran for about 200 meters, before his dash to freedom ended.

The suspect, a teacher at Wanganga Primary School allegedly lured the pupil into a lodge at Awasi Township before defiling her.

Nyando OCPD Leonard Matete said he took the daring chance when he was being moved from his cell to the crime office for his fingerprints to be registered.

The police boss added that he has since been transferred to Ahero Police Station.

"We have all the evidence that puts him at the center of the crime," said the police boss, adding that he will be taken to court on Monday.

Abortion

Police say the 14-year-old defilement victim is currently admitted at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.

It is suspected she tried procure an abortion at a backstreet clinic and found heavily bleeding. Her aunt who is said to have colluded with the teacher in organising the botched abortion is being sought.

"The girl was still bleeding by yesterday when she was found by a Good Samaritan and rushed to the hospital," said Matete.
