City Hall demolishes 'Pimp my ride' car wash on former Simmers land

City Hall demolishes “Pimp my ride” car wash on controversial Simmers land.

Business along Nairobi’s Kenyatta Avenue came to a standstill on Monday following demolition of stalls, a car wash and a car park built on land previously occupied by Simmers Club.

The demolitions came after Nairobi Governor Michael Sonko promised so. True to his word,  County government bulldozers flattened the popular “pimp my ride” car wash and accessories shed at the junction of Kenyatta Avenue and Mundi Mbingu Street.

In a video taken on Saturday, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was recorded threatening that the car wash business sitting on the land did not have planning approval and would be brought down.

Demolition at ex-Simmers club spot.

“After calling the OCPD, he called me and we know him, they have car wash business at the previous Simmers club area without approval. His car wash will be demolished the same way he has demolished the school,” the Governor is heard saying.

Business owners try to salvage what was left after the demolitions.

In March last year, Simmers Club, a popular joint on the same land was demolished in what was reported as a land tussle between the landowner and business owner.

The business, owned by former Kimilili MP Suleiman Murunga, was marred by controversy touching on where the club sat and the activities around the club.

The landowner sued Murunga averring that the politician had ignored court orders to quit.

Murunga denied the allegations, saying he owned the land and had the documentation to prove that the land was rightfully his.
