Kisumu County Governor Anyang Nyong’o has expressed his disappointment on the incident in Muhoroni where ODM Party leader Raila Odinga was heckled, saying it was pre-arranged.

In advertiser’s announcement circulated in the local dailies, Nyong’o said his government will not be deterred by a group of “engineered naysayers” from achieving the development agenda of his county.

“It is regrettable that a small band of engineered naysayers who have deliberately decided to resist development in the County as a whole purely for political mileage decided to embarrass our guest,” said Nyongó in the announcement.

The county boss further apologised to his party boss following the odd reception. He also regretted his inability to be available to welcome the Nasa leader owing to international commitments in Denmark.

On Monday, Raila alongside Petroleum CS John Munyes, Peter Munya (Industrialization) and James Macharia (Transport) were on an inspection tour in the region for state projects when protesters, waving placards, objected to the establishment of an industrial park in Ombei.

The protesters claimed that they were being forcefully evicted to pave way for the construction of the standard gauge railway, citing lack of consultation and knowledge on a clear roadmap for the implementation of the project.

The industrial park is among the key projects the government is looking forward to initiate in the region in a bid to woo China into financing the SGR extension to Kisumu City. ?
