A woman who gave birth to quintuplets and died days later was buried yesterday.

Relatives of Everlyne Namukhula, 27, wept as the hearse carrying her remains made its way to Kamulu Primary School in Navakholo sub-county, where the funeral service was being held.

Namukhula's husband, Gilbert Nanzushi, who is dumb, was overcome with emotions during the service.

Two of the babies, who died days before their mother, were buried yesterday at night -according to Bunyala traditions.

The county government has been renovating the road leading to Namukhula's Sisokhe village, with bulldozers sighted along the 20km stretch.

Police had a rough time controlling mourners, who came in large numbers to pay their last respects to a woman who had put their village on the national map.

Namukhula gave birth at the Kakamega County Referral Hospital last month.

She later died from what doctors termed as a heart condition.
