After the ouster of Moses Wetangula as Senate minority leader, it appeared that something was completely wrong. Many still say NASA is on its death.
Orange democratic movement (ODM) is a party that has inarguably stood the test of time. With a history going beyond a decade, it has remained one of the strongest oldest parties in Kenya owing to its numbers in both the Senate and National Assembly.
It has joined and formed alliances on its bid to ascend to presidency unsuccessfully. Nevertheless, no one doubts the fact that it is still a strong party, ostensibly due to the political strength of its party leader Raila Odinga.
But of late it has had its fair share of challenges. National Super Alliance(NASA) affiliates parties have in the past accused ODM of undermining them.
After the ouster of Moses Wetangula as Senate minority leader, it all appeared that something was completely wrong. Mark you many still say NASA is on its deathbed.
Eeven as Wiper Democratic Movement and Orange Democratic Movement parties are locked up in a supremacy battle, in the oncoming by-election in Embakasi South, the sibling rivalry has attracted the attention of NASA affiliates parties.
On Tuesday which was the last day of the campaign, both parties left nothing to chance as they traversed various corners of Embakasi South drumming support for their candidates.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula pitched tents at Embakasi South Constituency to urge their supporters to vote for Wiper candidate Julius Mawathe.
Reports also say that ANC has declared their unwavering support to the Wiper candidate, as ODM candidate Irshad Sumra, is left to fight for himself.
The Jubilee Party, on the other hand, has officially not declared its support to any candidate, but many of its MPs are on record supporting Julius Mawathe.
When ODM Party leader Raila Odinga led his brigade to the final rally of Irshad Sumra, it was definitely clear that Embakasi election is a tough test for ODM.
But if ODM candidate happens to lose in any of the by-election, whether in Ugenya or Embakasi South will the biggest loser be its party leader Raila Odinga?
