A student whose family claims died after being beaten by a teacher has been buried.

Kennedy Fundi, 18, a Form Three student at Kangaru High School, was buried at his aunts’ home in Riandu village, Embu County.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Ministry of Education are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

In their eulogy, Fundi's family wrote that he was hurt by a known person on February 28 this year while in school.

“After a week, he was taken to Tenri Hospital where he was admitted to ICU and later transferred to Nairobi Women’s Hospital where he died in the ICU,” read the eulogy.

Fundi, an orphan, had secured a scholarship from Equity Bank’s Wings to Fly, and was eulogised as brilliant, obedient, disciplined and hardworking.

Equity Bank officials, teachers and pupils from Riandu Primary School where he sat his KCPE, and area ward Kariuki Mwari were among those who attended the burial.

Equity Bank CEO James Mwangi and Master Card President Reepa Roy condoled with the family through Wings to Fly Programme Manager Emily Gumba.

Ms Gumba said the bank was saddened by Fundi’s death and was waiting to know what caused it.

She said they had been informed that a report on the death was not ready.
