Eight students admitted over food poisoning

Eight students of Nyabururu Girls School have been admitted at a hospital in Kisii in what is suspected to be a case of food poisoning.

According to the school’s principal Joyce Orioki, parents of the affected students have been informed and they have visited their daughters, some in school and others in hospital.

A number of parents had raised concerns over inadequate communication from the school’s management, adding that their calls went unanswered.

A parent who called The Standard from Kisumu said she was forced to travel on Saturday night to Kisii to check on her daughter.

“We need to get answers on what happened in the school. The welfare of children comes first, and we cannot assume that all is well when the school management has failed to issue timely updates,” said the parent.

The County Education Director Pius Ng’oma, and health officials addressed parents.
