Gang attacks convoy of area leaders and security team

Tension has gripped West Pokot-Turkana border after suspected bandits attacked a convoy of county security team who were heading to a peace meeting.

The team which was being led by West Pokot County Commissioner Apollo Okello was allegedly attacked at Lami Nyeusi area.

Area Governor John Lonyangapuo said the convoy had three local MPs Samuel Moroto (Kapenguria), Peter Lochakapong and Mark Lomunokol were heading to security meeting at Takaiwa when the incident occurred.

The heavily armed bandits are alleged to have sprayed a police convoy with bullets during the early morning attack.

The security team were heading to Takaiwa Village where one person was killed and more than 500 heads of cattle stolen by cattle rustlers on Sunday afternoon.
