Controversial Turkish investor faces charges today
The whereabouts of controversial Turkish investor in Kilifi County who was arrested on Wednesday at his house in Kikambala remained unknown yesterday.
Armed policemen, accompanied by Interpol and officers from the Child Protection Unit in Nairobi, raided the fortified home of Osman Elsek at around 9pm on Wednesday.
Mtwapa OCPD Joseph Muriuki confirmed Elsek’s arrest and said Elsek was still under police detention last evening.
“He will be charged tomorrow (today) at the Shanzu law courts,” said Muriuki who added that “I cannot talk much about this matter because it is being handled by officers from Nairobi.
He did not disclose what charges the Turk will face today.
The investor is also said to enjoy support of powerful politicians and officials in security, business and judicial circles which makes his first known arrest stunning.
Reports indicate two Germans were also arrested in the swoop.
The three men were first held at Kijipwa Police Station in Kilifi and reportedly transferred to Nyali Police Station in Mombasa as the police prepare to arraign Elsek in court. Two Germans, Zerbin Waldemar and Wectabe Shestavets, were yesterday charged with undisclosed crimes.
