University to put up sports medicine institute at Sh500 million

A university has set aside Sh500 million for the establishment of an institute of health promotions and sports medicine.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (Mmust) will convert the department of Health Promotions and Sports Science into an institute within 12 months.

The institute will be one of a kind in Africa and second in the world after the American College of Sports Medicine in the United States.

Health Promotions and Sports Science department chairman, Peter Bukhala yesterday said the institute will be used as a centre for research, training, fitness hub and a rehabilitation centre.
