Students of Moi Naikarra Secondary School can sigh with relief after their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education results were finally released.
The school in Narok West sub-county had its results withheld after the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) pointed out suspected irregularities.
Yesterday, teachers and students from the school made the 200 kilometre journey to Narok town and sang with jubilation when they realised they had topped the county for the fifth year running.
“We are the happiest people on earth today. Our results, which had been withheld since December 21, last year, have been released. We have been praying endlessly and we thank God for answering our prayers,” said John Kuyo, the school’s principal.
Despite the shivers after Knec’s suspicions, the school managed to send 122 students of its 190 students to university on Government sponsorship.
Three students scored a mean grade B plus, 23 students B plain, 31 B minus and 65 C plus.
Mr Kuyo said he had confidence that Knec would vindicate his school, since the students were a disciplined lot whose good academic record was known.
God-fearing
“We have been topping the county in national examinations for the last four years and this is our fifth. Our secret is the fear of God and prudent management of the school,” said Kuyo.
Parents and students said they had received the best New Year gift. They said they had a gloomy Christmas after they received news that their school had not received results.
“This is the happiest day for us. Personally, I never enjoyed my Christmas. I lost appetite and sleep after I heard that we had missed our results. My daughter was among the candidates,” said Joseph Kasale, a parent.
Stephen Kisotu, Chairman of the school’s Board of Management, said the institution had a good management team, and previous results could have made some people jealous, leading them to write to Knec.
Wrote to Knec
“We understand that some people wrote a false report to Knec, asking that we be investigated. Even after the investigations were done, the allegations were found to be untrue,”said Mr Kisotu.

Area MP Gabriel Tongoyo also joined in the celebrations and thanked the school’s administration for the exemplary performance.
“We had no doubt that our young ones were going to triumph,” Mr Tongoyo said.
