Sharks and Gor must take their continental matches seriously
It is another important weekend for Kenyan clubs Gor Mahia and Kariobangi Sharks as they seek glory at the continental level.
Kariobangi Sharks take on Asante Kotoko of Ghana in a Confederations Cup match at Kasarani today while Gor Mahia play Lobi Stars of Nigeria tomorrow at the same venue in a CAF Champions League match.
The return legs will be played after two weeks. These are very important matches for the two clubs as victory will see them make it to the group stages of their respective tournaments.
At this stage, the two teams will be eligible to collect impressive amounts of money and that is why they must fight hard in their matches.

Last season, Gor Mahia made it to the group stages of the Confederations Cup becoming the first Kenyan club to do so. However, with better preparation, the team would have qualified for the Champions’ League group stages considering that Esperance who beat them went on to win the tournament.
The disappointing part with local clubs is that they don’t take these continental fixtures seriously despite the huge amounts of money involved. This must change and it should start this weekend at Kasarani Stadium.
