Kariobangi Sharks make their maiden appearance in continental football with a Confederations Cup preliminary fixture against Arta Solar7 of Djibouti.

Kenyan champions Gor Mahia will meet Bata Bullets of Malawi also in the preliminary matches. The fixtures will be played on November 27 and 28 with the return matches two weeks later.

Kariobangi Sharks qualified to represent the country in the Confederations Cup after edging out Sofapaka 3-2 in the Sportpesa Shield finals.

Club chairman Robert Maoga is confident the team can do well and are eyeing a group stage appearance.

“We are ready for continental football though this is our first time at this stage and our target is to make it to the group stages. We have a young squad that is determined to do well and prove themselves,” he said.

Gor Mahia on the other hand will be looking to make it to the group stages of the Champions League something they missed by a whisker last year after being edged out by finalists Esperance of Tunisia.

The Kenyan champions were relegated to the Confederations Cup where they made it to the group stages but were eliminated in the quarter-finals.
