The Kanu party's Meru branch has defended Njuri Ncheke elders who met Baringo Senator Gideon Moi in Nakuru on Saturday.

Branch chairman Erastus Mururu told some Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders to stop criticising their counterparts from South Imenti for meeting the senator.

Mr Mururu said Gideon was a politician of good standing and had a good chance of being elected President in 2022.

"Gideon Moi is a nationalist who has served this country in several elective positions and has all it takes to be identified with the Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders considering that his father was initiated into the cultural group," said Mururu.

He further said Meru had an opportunity to have one of their own picked to be Gideon's running mate as the region had a high number of voters.

"The branch will team up with the entire council of elders and other leaders in courting a senior politician from Meru to join Kanu and ultimately be nominated Gideon Moi's running mate," he said.

Njuri Ncheke members who visited Gideon welcomed him to Mt Kenya region and promised him their support
