Kanbis Sports Club began their defence of the Hayer One Star Field Youth Cricket tournament on a resounding not with two wins yesterday.

Kanbis’ memorable performance of the day was their six wickets win off fancied and tournament’s favourite Uganda U19 Select at Ruaraka Sports Country.

The Eastleigh High School side continued their good run in the tournament with an eight wickets win over Swamibapa at the same venue in the afternoon match.

In the first match of the day, Kanbis had a best possible start when they dismissed Uganda’s top batsman Zephania Arinaitwe for a two balls duck before the Ugandans were bowled out for 107 runs.

On day one of the event, Arinaitwe missed a double century by only second run as they beat Swamibapa at the same venue.

But yesterday, Arinaitwe was back in the pavilion of the second ball of the inning.

Mitesh Halai had Arinaitwe caught by Abishekh Chidambaran before 19 runs were added for the second wicket between Perry Wazombe and Ronald Opio.

The dismissal of Wazombe brought up a collapse which Uganda never recovered from. From 19 for 1, Uganda were down to 19 for 5. It took an unbeaten 37 from number 10 Cosmas Kyu for Uganda to get to 107.

Halai ended with figures of 3 for 17 in four overs with Sachin Bhudia and Jinesh Jivani bagging two more wickets.

Despite losing two quick wickets in the chase, Kanbis never got troubled with Bhudia (30) and Jayant Mepani (27) as they sailed to victory with a ball to play.

In the second match, Kanbis needed only 6.2 overs to get the required target of 89.

Openers Bhudia (49) and Aman Gandhi (33) laid up a winning stand by posting 87 for the first wicket.

Bhuhdia was the only wicket to fall in the inning with only two runs required when he was caught off Chandrakant Bandari.

At Nairobi Gymkhana, Ruaraka Sports Club halted Mombasa Simba’s good run in the event with a 44 runs win.

Defending 111, Harshit Vekaria bagged 3 for 11 and Rikesh Vekaria ended with 2 for 17 to bowl out the Mombasa side for 67.

Vekaria and Chandresh Hirani had starred with the bat for Ruaraka with 36 and 24 runs respectively as Ruaraka managed to post 111.

In the girls match played at Ngara Sports Club, Alice Muoki bagged 3 for 10 as Star Field Ladies beat Nairobi Ladies Select by 86 runs.
