Atletico Madrid and Uruguay defender Diego Godin has come out to speak about why he did not move to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.
Godin, who had a decent World Cup was linked with a move to Man United in the dying hours of the English transfer window.
The reported move, however, failed to materialize due to the player’s ‘personal reasons’, English news outlet Independent Sport has confirmed.
Godin has a 20 million euro release clause on his contract, a fee the most valuable club in the world could easily match.
Before the Super Cup final bout between Real Madrid and Atletico, Godin spoke to the media and revealed he rejected Man United due to ‘personal reasons’ and has not yet signed a new contract with Los Rojiblancos.
“I have had offers, although I have decided to stay for personal reasons and I am only thinking about the final. But I have not extended my contract. I saw that news came out but I do not know where it came from,” he said.
He went on to lead Atletico to a 4-2 win against Madrid, a first ever European final win against their derby rivals.
