Sonko skips Senate grilling as representative is sent away

A House committee yesterday turned away a City Hall official who had been tasked by Governor Mike Sonko to represent him at a meeting.

The Senate Public Accounts and Investment Committee said acting Finance minister Charles Kerich (pictured) could not respond to questions raised by the Auditor General during the 2014/2015 financial year on behalf of the governor.

Mr Sonko had been summoned by the Senator Moses Kajwang’-led committee to answer various queries on spending by the county administration during the tenure of his predecessor, Dr Evans Kidero.

Kerich told the committee that Sonko was unwell and had requested that his appearance be postponed.

Although Kerich said he had the audit answers, Mr Kajwang' said county chiefs could not delegate the responsibility of explaining use of funds.
