Juventus almost knocked Real Madrid out of the Champions League quarter-finals after scoring three times at the Santiago Bernabeu to level the aggregate scores following their 3-0 loss to the Spanish in the first-leg of the competition.

The clash appeared to continue in the extra time before referee Michael Oliver awarded a penalty for a foul on Lucas Vazquez by defender Mehdi Benatia in the 93rd minute.

The Old Lady players protested the decision for a couple of minutes which saw their veteran shot stopper Gianluigi Buffon sent off for confronting the referee.

Cristiano Ronaldo converted the penalty to book a spot for Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the European top flight.

According to Metro, Buffon blasted Oliver suggesting that the English referee ‘has a garbage bin where his heart should be’ in an interview with the media after the match.

In an exciting moment, Ronaldo went up to Buffon who was still in the interview, to hug him and probably to congratulate him for the good fight.

The Portugal captain also had some kind words for the Juventus goalkeeper and was quoted by the Metro saying, ‘I have a lot of respect for Buffon, the words he has said about me, and what I’ve said about him,’ Ronaldo told RTP after the match.

‘He is a great goalkeeper and I hope this is not his last Champions League appearance, he is one of the best goalkeepers ever.’
