Kenyan Borana from Moyale, Marsabit and Isiolo joined the Oromo of southern Ethiopia to celebrate the election of new Prime Minister Abiye Ahmed.
The Kenyans in Marsabit and Isiolo towns welcomed Mr Ahmed’s election to succeed Hailemariam Desalegn who resigned last month.
The fete in Marsabit on Tuesday went on smoothly but the one in Isiolo ended midway on Thursday after police officers asked everyone at the venue in Kambi Garba to leave before force could be applied.
Both events were organised by elders and MCAs from Marsabit. In Isiolo, the convenor was Marsabit County Assembly Majority Leader Halkano Konso.
He said that he had notified Isiolo police of the meeting, which he said was a cultural event.
