Twitter goes wild as High Court quashes decision to release 'miracle babies' bishop Deya

Twitter was thrown into a frenzy when The High Court has quashed a decision to release televangelist Gilbert Deya on bond on Friday, January 26.

This decision was reached when the prosecution had filed an appeal opposing a lower court's granting of Sh1 million to the controversial preacher who was deported from the United Kingdom to Kenya in August 2017.

In a tweet by National Prosecution Authority, the prosecution had filed an appeal opposing lower court's granting of Sh 1 million to Deya.

The miracle babies bishop who was ordained by the United Evangelical Church of Kenya and styles himself as "Archbishop" was an evangelist in Kenya in the late 1980s to early 1990s before moving to the UK, where he established Gilbert Deya Ministries in 1997.

Following the announcement by National Prosecution Authority, Kenyans on Twitter aired their views with some saying the High Court was right while others felt Deya should have been released.

Here are some of their views;

Those wrongly criticising televangelist Gilbert Deya should know all humans make mistakes and Deya is not an exception, let him face the law at one point he will come out strong to serve God.— Captain Lawi (@LeviSakit) January 26, 2018

Gilbert Deya, a vocal international preacher accused of stealing babies while using televangelism to hide in plain sight, has been denied bond to the disappointment of barren women who looked up to him for inspiration.— kipkoech mitei Rober (@MiteiRober) January 26, 2018

Gilbert Deya claims that "through the power of prayer and the Lord Jesus" he has helped sterile women give birth. In the UK, one woman is claimed to have had three children in less than a year. The women traveled to Kenya in order to "give birth".????????????someone tag Kanyari for me

The law has proven us right again, that it is a master of deception. Finally the table will be banged as justice will be served to the highest bidder. "Gilbert Deya"— Power of Boy Child (@SupahHukah) January 26, 2018

It's sad that sometimes justice is served to the highest bidder, but the case of Gilbert Deya is proving there is light at the end of the tunnel.— Kevin Kiumbe (@CEOkiumbe) January 26, 2018

Gilbert Deya child theft case, a very serious offence then lower court just releases him on a bond of 1 million thanks to High court for quashing that kangaroo decision— Char-lee Oddie (@Oddcharley) January 26, 2018

Gilbert Deya denied bond by High Court. You can't always hide in the name of a servant of God to do evil acts. Everything that is done in secrecy will one day be put to light and the consequence of the act will torment you.— ???? Ian_Amulega (@amulegai) January 26, 2018

Gilbert Deya was a preacher it's okei.. maybe he will continue being so it's okei.. but hapa kuwa mwizi Wa watoto.. it's not okay..— Roman (@1en2giiz) January 26, 2018
