Local security agencies are on high alert after receiving intelligence that some parents were planning to secretly subject their daughters to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) during the Christmas festivities.

Speaking in Embu town, County Commissioner Esther Maina said they were monitoring a group of women that informants revealed planned to camouflage the act with the festivities to escape the attention of law enforcers.

Ms Maina and Embu Woman Representative Jane Wanjuki said circumcision of girls was illegal, outdated and tarnished the image of the county.
