Residents of Matungulu have expressed concern at the return of livestock theft in the region.

The latest incident was reported in Mbiani village on Thursday night where 16 head of cattle were stolen from the homestead of a farmer, John Kithoka.

The thieves had slaughtered three cows by the time police traced them to their hideout in a dawn operation.

An area resident said cases of livestock theft and burglary have been on the rise in the past few weeks.

“We have witnessed rampant cases of general crime related to theft and burglary, whose frequency has been rising as the festive season approaches,” said one resident.
