Jubilee Party and the Opposition are now expected to present a fresh list of candidates for nomination to the East African Legislative Assembly.

Candidates who were being considered for the position after being interviewed in May will have to apply afresh, after the posts were advertised by clerks of the National Assembly and the Senate.

According to an advertisement in the major dailies on Thursday, those wishing to be considered for the posts have until next Thursday to present their nomination papers to clerks of the bicameral Parliament, who will be the presiding officers.

“A person seeking to be nominated for election by a political party shall submit his or her application together with certified copies of certificates and testimonials, indicating the political party whose nomination the applicant seeks, to the presiding officers,” reads the advertisement in part.

The notice jointly signed by clerks Michael Sialai (National Assembly) and Jeremiah Nyengenye (Senate) indicates that candidates must make their applications by November 23.

The application will be forwarded to the relevant political parties.

Notable nominees from Jubilee Party who had been interviewed for the slots include former Interior PS Mutea Iringo, former Kamukunji MP Simon Mbugua and ex-Mandera North MP Mohammed Adan Nooru.

Apply afresh

Jubilee Party chairman Nelson Dzuya, former Clerk of the National Assembly Justin Bundi, EALA member Abubakar Ogle, ex-Embu Speaker Justus Mate and former Bomet Senate aspirant Stacey Chepkemoi are also expected to apply afresh for the posts.

Others are Irene Masit, Justin Nthiiri, Florence Sergon, Justus Mate and Pius Ewoton.

Canon Naomi Waqo, who had earlier been nominated by Jubilee for the EALA post, was nominated to the Senate.

Mr Sialai Thursday told The Standard Jubilee was entitled to five slots while the Opposition would get three.
