Gilgil, Kenya: Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia was shocked when a principal in Gilgil, Nakuru County reported to the examination distribution centre drunk.

Mr Christopher Maisiba, the Principal of Mawaka Secondary School, got a rude shock when he showed up drunk and 30 minutes late only to find the TSC boss and top education officials at the bulk centre for the official opening.

Ms Macharia spotted Maisiba arriving at the station as the Mathematics and Biology papers were being distributed to various examination centres.

The TSC Boss questioned the principal's state of mind as he appeared to stagger when he stepped forward to pick up the papers for his school.

Maisiba, however, maintained he was  sobre.

“I am not drunk, I woke up late that is why I have reported late. I am not drunk sir, I have in fact come here hurriedly not to miss picking the examination,”  protested Maisibo.

A furious Macharia said she could not entrust Mr Maisibo with the exam material.

She directed the Gilgil Sub County quality assurance officer to pick and take the mathematics and biology examinations to the school.

During the confrontation with the unapologetic teacher, Nakuru County Commissioner Mr Joshua Nkanatha directed police officers at the centre to arrest the teacher.

Maisibo was arrested and handed to Gilgil police station for interrogation.

“Mwalimu, it is wrong for you to exchange with your boss despite having committed a crime. We cannot allow such kind of character at a time we expect candidates to write their examination smoothly,” said Nkanatha.

Later, the CEO visited the school few kilometres from Gilgil town and was shocked about its deplorable state.

The congested mud-walled school does not have any signage.
