Local teachers have protested over the mysterious killings of their colleagues. Through their unions, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet), the teachers were reacting to the killing of Geeto Primary School head teacher in Igoji, who was hacked to death.

Two weeks earlier, a high school teacher was stabbed to death by his girlfriend. Another tutor is said to have collapsed and died while having drinks with friends at a bar.
