Romantic runner proposes to Kenyan Girlfriend just after finishing race

Jake Robertson got some extra cheers from the Newcastle crowd when he proposed to his Kenyan girlfriend  Magdalyne Masai.

The romantic New Zealand star called partner Masai who finished fourth in the women’s elite race at the finish line of the Great North Run.

But she was left in shock after Jake found the strength to get down on one knee to propose and much to everyone’s delight, Masai said yes.

After she had accepted his proposal, the crowd erupted into cheers and applause as the happy couple embraced.

Jake told the media: “In the last mile it just randomly came to my mind that today was the day.”

Jake finished the race six seconds behind Mo Farah.

Kenya's Mary Keitany won the elite women's with the third fastest time in its history as Vivian Cheruiyot came second and fellow countrywoman Caroline Kipkirui came third.
