Catholic bishops have called for an end to the public tirade against the Supreme Court.

The bishops also appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his main challenger, Raila Odinga, to respect decisions made by independent constitutional bodies ahead of the repeat presidential election.

The bishops warned that the country might plunge into election-related chaos if the two top leaders did not watch what they said in public.

Speaking at a press briefing, the bishops said all Kenyans, regardless of their position, must uphold the independence, dignity and integrity of the Supreme Court and other constitutional institutions even when they do not agree with their decisions.

Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto have been at the forefront of a public tirade against the Supreme Court judges for invalidating the presidential elections.

The bishops want these attacks to stop.

"We are calling for an end to this open intimidation and threats to the Supreme Court and Justice Maraga," they said.
