Nairobi Governor-elect Mike Sonko has condemned calls by NASA leader Raila Odinga to boycott work Monday. Sonko said the call is aimed at causing panic and creating fear among Nairobi residents and is therefore unconstitutional.

“Raila has no authority to declare any day a holiday. We, therefore, ask Kenyans to ignore the calls and continue with their activities as usual,” said Sonko.

He said NASA demonstrations in the past have been marred with looting, theft and injuries and even fatalities. He asked city residents to report to their work and assured them of security.

“We need to put elections behind us. We assure the residents that we shall provide maximum security everywhere within the county,” said the new county boss.
