IEBC: We are ready for elections

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati 

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati has assured Kenyans that the commission is fully prepared for the August 8 elections.

Speaking to the press at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi, the IEBC chairman focused on several key issues of public concern on the general election.

He said dead voters won't vote since authentication is foolproof.

About stuffing of ballots, he said measures include strict tally and periodic reports on turnout by KIEMs technology.

A thorough step by step protocols involving party agents will be published.

The ballot papers have high security features.

Chebukati said results will be made available on various platforms and channels including live media coverage.

Concerning failure of technology, he said the system does not depend on Internet, its security is enhanced and major public testing ongoing.

The results from polling stations at constituency level are final and will be tallied at Bomas of Kenya.

IEBC has invested in the best security systems and involved top notched security professionals.

The commission has been carrying out continuous engagement with communities and law enforcement agencies to ensure security at polling stations.

Voter education has been stepped up in the last few weeks to minimize on number of spoilt votes. IEBC staff have been trained and they are aware of the punitive measure on any electoral offence.

The commission is working with security agencies to ensure all Kenyans are protected as they participate in the peaceful elections.

In extreme cases, IEBC will provide mobile polling stations for displaced persons in affected areas.
